Vancouver the Mighty

Posted: May 28th, 2014

Anyone who came to VanCAF 2014 already knows it was a huge success, but let us reiterate: it was a huge success. With your contributions, we raised hundreds of dollars in fundraising efforts to cover expenses for 2014 and beyond, and our attendance hit an incredible 8000 people! Vancouver, you're amazing--and your love of comics does not disapppoint. We're proud to be your indie comics fest, and we look forward to bringing you an even better show next year thanks to your inexhaustible support and enthusiasm.

In addition, we'd love to thank our 2014 volunteer team, who continued to do an amazing job; we were thrilled to have you all on board, and the show would not have been nearly so successful without your dedication.

And finally, thank you so much to the Roundhouse Community Centre for partnering with us yet again. Without their beautiful and affordable space, VanCAF wouldn't exist at all.

Thank you, Opus!

We'd just like to thank one more supporter of VanCAF 2014, Opus Framing & Art Supplies. This year they were immensely generous, donating over $200 worth of goods to our raffle prizes for both attendees and volunteers. Thank you!

Thank you, Metropolis

Posted: May 22nd, 2014

Vancouver is a city FULL of great comic book stores, and we love them all--but none as much as we love Metropolis Comics & Toys. Technically located in Burnaby, Metropolis has donated to all three VanCAFs and provided us with neverending support. This year, Metropolis contributed to three of our four VanCAF raffle prizes with over $150 worth of donations. Thanks, Metropolis!

And this is just one of the many great prizes we'll be raffling off!

VanCAF would like to thank The NUB!

Posted: May 5th, 2014

With VanCAF less than three weeks away we'd like to start thanking some of our sponsors for this year. With the help of various local businesses, we can put together some awesome VIP packages and raffle prizes, which we use to fund all our operations. This year, we'd like to start by thanking The Nub: Indie Arts Hub, who have graciously donated five year-long subscriptions to Broken Pencil Magazine to our raffle prizes, and an issue of Broken Pencil Magazine to each of our VIP Packages!

The NUB: Indie Arts Hub is an App compatible with iPhone/iPad or Android that provides a stream of independent arts and culture content from across North America directly to readers five times per week. Think of it as a a mini-digest of diverse content from participating independent arts and culture magazines. Each day, you will find in your phone a new column, poem, short story, interview, profile, book/zine review, comic or rant from one of five of North America's best independent arts and culture magazines.

The Nub features content from Broken Pencil: The Magazine of Zine Culture and the Independent Arts; Geist magazine; Subterrain magazine; Matrix magazine; Taddle Creek magazine, and 49th Shelf.

We have excellent news, as storyboard artist and creator Tyson Hesse joins our guestlist, as well as Vancouver and comics veteran Davis Boswell. Welcome aboard, fellas!

Danielle Corsetto

Posted: February 2nd, 2014

Unfortunately Danielle Corsetto of Girls with Slingshots is unable to join us for VanCAF 2014. She expresses her deepest regrets that she'll have to bow out, and hopefully we'll see her in 2015. Thanks, Danielle!

But don't be sad; there's still loads of great guests and exhibitors for 2014!

Guests & Exhibitors Galore

Posted: January 6th, 2014

With the new year comes new announcements! As more exhibitor and guest info slowly trickles in, it's worth keeping a watchful eye on the VanCAF Twitter and Facebook feeds so you can stay up-to-date on all our exciting progress. For now, though, our special guests are coming along very nicely indeed, with the addition of talents like Becky & Frank, Aaron Diaz, Pia Guerra, and Kris Straub. More on the way! (In the meantime, you may want to satisfy yourself with browsing our increasingly impressive 2014 Exhibitor line-up.)

The Deadline Has Passed!

Posted: December 3rd, 2013

VanCAF applications are officially closed! We have a record-breaking number of amazing applications this year, so we'll be reviewing them carefully over the next couple of weeks. Applicants should expect to hear from us by December 16th, and we'll be announcing our exhibitor line up in the weeks following. Good luck, everyone!

One Day to Application Deadline

Posted: December 1st, 2013

Applications for VanCAF 2014 close tomorrow. While applications will still be accepted after the deadline, tomorrow is the last day to have your submission considered as part of the initial curation; all late applicants will be placed immediately on a waiting list.

Applications this year have thusfar been amazingly strong, and we know we're going to have to turn away a lot of enthusiastic and talented artists. Let's make VanCAF 2014 an overwhelming success so that we can strive towards twice the space (and twice the exhibitors!) in 2015!

Good luck, applicants! See you on the other side!
